鬼鎮 (Ghosttown), my Glitch Western Art film, an excerpt of which screens THIS WEDS JUNE 5th 2019 @ Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions / #LACE …

beginning by acknowledging that this upcoming event is being held on the traditional homelands of the indigenous First Nations Native American People of the Tongva Nation, i pay my respect to the land, the elders, and the people, their past, present and future leaders.

amidst California’n dreams && ideologies, im honored && excited to be screening an excerpt of my experimental Western film in a screening program alongside my friend and inspiration Vanalyne Green. her amazing Feminist Video Art work, Saddle Sores, is a direct inspiration on me && my film, so im truly happy to screening my work with hers. im as pleased && as mighty proud as possible, as they might say in the 1800s. in 鬼鎮 (Ghosttown), Vanalyne plays The Voice of the Future Cowgirl, a character based on Vanalyne herself and specifically based on her performance of herself in Saddle Sores. this screening program curated by Maura Brewer + Paul Pescador is based on genre investigations && experiments. as they write:

“Video in Site is a series of screenings that will occur regularly from February 2019 to September 2019. Each screening will bring together video art and experimental film, alongside clips from the internet and other digital detritus. The work will be grouped together loosely by genre, including the Musical, the Western, Action, Science Fiction, Soap Opera, the Road Trip and Horror.

To make site-specific work today is to engage with the space of digital capitalism. For artists working in Los Angeles, images from Hollywood wash up on the shores of the Internet, where they are translated, reconstructed and synthesized back into material that reflects on its origins. From critique to hommage, these selected videos address the ways that identity is constructed from the fragments of mass media. The movie theater, the cell phone, the Netflix queue and the Youtube playlist form a landscape against which the artist moves.

The series began in the heart of Hollywood at LACE, and will travel throughout Los Angeles to venues including 18th Street Art Center, Armory Center for the Arts, Echo Park Film Center, and Queens LA. The fifth screening in this series explores the Western film and the adventure, violence and desolation of the wild west. Expect cowboys, ghost towns, banjos, shootouts and lots of horses.

Artists include: Jeremy Blake, jonCates, Vanalyne Green, Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Julie Orser, Julián Sorter, Marnie Weber and many more!”

if’n yr in shinning around #LA, swing by! it should be sum pumpkins!
