…as this, my most pØ$✝-g|_1ⱡƆⱧ ȿɄɱɱɱƋ (post-glitch summer) comes to an official end w/ the now begin of SEPT i wanna reflex on summa the most post-glitch moments of the summer of 2014 wit yawl…

as my “HAPPY post-glitch summer (GIF) yawl” abv indicates this was a summer inna wwwitch i xxxperience’d sum oft the most post-glitch moments TO: date…

ṗ◉ȿƮ-g└!┼ɧ ȿɄ/\/\/\/\/\/\Ƌ ⁽²⁰¹⁴⁾ incl’d:

0. “I see yr deep into the glitch, very rad. would love to collab or something in some way” this msg from originary Seapunk Albert Redwine, AKA Ultrademon, began the collaboration wwwitch created this music vid: http://www.dazeddigital.com/music/article/21040/1/watch-ultrademons-glitchy-and-hyperreal-new-video

the music vid is for Ultrademon’s new traxxx “Drive U Crazy” feat Zombelle + The GTW && is/was made this summer by us, CVVVLT.COM in collaboration with Coral Records InternazionaleDAZED DIGITAL, who premeired the vid, refer to the exxxperience as “like a summer cruise designed by Hieronymus Bosch.”

Zombelle as an island from the vid
Ultrademon as an Anime character from our collaboration… #glitch’t #Seapunk inna #CVVVLT -made vid w/ @coralrecords @ultrademon @zombelle_ via @DazedMagazine

1. post-glitch warez / outfits / apparel: i made + now rock sum custom post-glitch kicks from adidas:

screen capture from post-glitch tumblr of the adidas shoes i designed this post-glitch summer

+ pickt up sum post-glitch swimwarez @ Macy’s, fur fux sake, made by Speedo which are mayhaps the most deep post-glitch swimwarez b/c they are also glitching the genre of swimwarez/Bermuda shorts so i suppose if 01 were to extrapolate optimistically i guess you could imagine these post-glitch swimwarez by Speedo are mobilizing sum kinda visual critique of (Western) Imperialism or you could simply be drawn to them for the ways in which they represent sum glitcht flowwwerrors…

meanwhiles this summer, Logan Owlbeemoth of Tachyons+, maker of glitch / Video Art machines, tipped me to an ebay sale, a Buy It Now option, on a totally post-glitch Quiksilver t-shirt that embeds video reference signals while ‘glitching’ the Quiksilver brand. this kinda inclusion of glitch is super post-glitch from my perspective: a corporate brand ‘glitching’ itself underscores what William Lockett + i have bin discuss’n fur awhiles: ways in which ‘glitch’ cannot now be said to have or communicate any specific intrinsic traits or properties of criticality but rather can be variously mobilized @ any/many times for various (cross) purposes +/OR reasons (that may contradict or exclude 01 anothers)…

post-glitch swimwarez on display @ Macy’s as documented in my Instagram feed
post-glitch Quiksilver t-shirt selfie as documented in my Instagram feed

all these set me bax sum$. as i wrote in my MØN3¥-Δ$-3ɌɌɌØɌ PDF project for the MON3Y.US exhibition: when/warez/how is Glitch Art profitable && for whom?

adidas mi Samba Custom Shoes: 97.00 USD

Speedo Windblast Floral E-Board via Macy’s: $21.59 USD

Speedo Border Stripe E-Board Swim Trunks via Macy’s: $23.99 USD

(both on sale)

Quiksilver Men’s Broadcast Slim Fit T-Shirt-Black via ebay seller aplaceinthesun: $15.98 USD

SUBTOTAL: $158.56 USD

so, i made my 1rst #‎bitcrush’t && #‎glitch’t #‎swimsuit fur yawl to halp offset sum of dat $: bitcrusht glitch stripped bare even by jonCates on Print All Over Me which yawl can pix up fur 98 broken bones…

&& in the meantimes, mayhaps coincidentally + mayhaps knot, adidas has gone #glitch officially w/ their own official #postglitch kicks, so i suppose those will now set me bax “Per qualche dollaro in più”…

my MØN3¥-Δ$-3ɌɌɌØɌ PDF project for the MON3Y.US exhibition

2. inna vry post-glitch mv of my owwwn, i made a knew werk fur the glitChicago exhibition this summer. i installed┍4\/\/Ɍ(ɔ)H̶!\/Ǝ (pronounced “raw archive”), a compressed archive of 15+ years of glitch Art/Lyfe in Chicago, free for download, distribution, remix + research. 113.13 GBs of previously unreleased personal data commingle with open sourced plans + documents from key moments of Dirty New Media TO: undead whispers of D1THER D00M secrets… my installation exists as an unsecret Dead Drop USB stick wwwitch i have unclouded + embedded in a cornerstone fragment of white brick wall. this work is, i hope, as Kate Sierzputowski writes: “an excellent introduction to view work that is normally shared on digital platforms” as well as a work that (while documented online) is only axxxually available by physically visiting the work in the exhibition + then taking the time to pull data over the USB (2.0) connection. in other words: this is a digital work in a physical exhibition that offers an intense level of access to previously unknown/unavailable content but that also simultaneously requires 01 to literally sit w/ the work (+ their own laptop) to access the archive themselves. in doing so you are then archiving the archive, sharing + distributing the data by choosing to copy it right

┍4\/\/Ɍ(ɔ)H̶!\/Ǝ (“RAW ARCHIVE”) is now on exhibition in: glitChicago at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (Chicago, United States) until SEPT 28, 2014.
the public Glitch//Request Facebook group, created by Cliff Pottberg this summer, MAY 28 2014

3. Glitch//Request: from my vector-view Glitch//Request may be the most curious of all my post-glitch summer events of 2014. i joined a Facebook group dedicated to ppl posting imgs && vids which they are requesting other ppl (use various techniques, from Dirty New Media to post-glitch) approaches to glitch/gritch/gl1tch into (Art). im rly amazed + perplexed by the existence of the group + the impulses of the folks on there. i mean, post-glitch apps to accomplish these affects/FX are a click away +/OR Dirty New Media styles to accomplish similar goals are simple + direct && yet having a forum to request that others do this for/TO: you is clearly being embraced in/on this group. the embrace itself is also expressive of a few complex power exchange dynamics that are demonstrative/compelling/definitive/troubling

im more familiar w/ sex-positive kink/fetish culture approaches to these forms of requests in which the complexities of the operative power exchange dynamics are explicitly sexualized (wwwitch i will wryte abt separately soon). other request cultures online follow similar but more abstracted + isolatory (nonparticipatory) forms of exchange, i.e. the xrays, bubbles, fakes + general requests for sauce fnd in the structured technosocial spaces dedicated to these exchanges on platforms such as 4chan, reddit, etc… this dynamic is reversed in a third type of request scenarios/situations when cammers are performing for (often paying) viewers who are participating/requesting in realtime. (i will detail thoughts / feelings on all 3 in another txt). for me, these are the ref pts that are always alrdy in the context of Glitch//Request

sexualized exchanges in this context draw out + render implications of Dirty New Media esp as rltd to ‘glitch’ +/or ‘Glitch Art’. as Marta Blicharz writes: “We love technology when it works great, but some of us love it even more when sometimes it doesn’t. The glitch is already being fetishized and worshiped. When you combine it with the sexualized flesh, what is so enticing is the orgy of pixels instead of the porn actors beneath them.” +/OR ALSO as Jessica Fenlon writes: “our cultures current obsession with the explicit & it’s certainty makes the unknown or ambiguous sexxxxier & more terrifying”

meanwhile, anonymity && accountability mix in unpredictable + unstable combinations online. as is well known, in regards to platforms of social exchange such as 4chan or the comment threads of youtube, the relative feelings of anonymity can produce a radical loss in feelings of accountability. (i wryte ‘relative’ + ‘feelings’ here b/c, as we also know, anonymity is actually vry difficult to attain online given the basic structures of the Internet/www technologies. these difficulties of establishing anonymity online have increased in the post-9/11 context, as the recent revelations made by Edward Snowden of the United States military-industrial complex’s * secret / clandestine / illegal mass warrantless electronic surveillance data mining/manipulation programs demonstrates. [* PRISM, TURMOIL, TURBINE, QFIRE, Key Hole or Evolved Enhanced CRYSTAL (EEC), MonsterMind + other systems combine to produce a situation Edward Snowden defines as “turnkey tyranny”. these closed systems provide proprietary forms of tyrannical control. these systems are produced + maintained by the military-industrial complex in the United States but have global impact/reach. this military-industrial complex is complex b/c it is a network of competitive corporatist desires, forces who temporarily align to achieve various sociopolitical/economic goals. in the case of the afore mentioned illegal international surveillance data mining/manipulation the parties involved incl: the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), the Lockheed Martin corporation, the National Security Agency (NSA), the Dell computer corporation, the National Security Agency (NSA), the Booz Allen Hamilton private Strategy and Technology Consulting firm, Apple Computers, Facebook, Microsoft Corporation, Skype, Google + many many other associated agencies, business + individuals.])

nowww, wit all dat said: the social software space of Glitch//Request has aspects of all of the abv (replete w/ trolling) as well as simultaneously having/being a developers community wwwitch is actively coding new tools (both freely + commercially available solutions) for making ‘glitch’ +/or ‘Glitch Art’. this vry sticky/seductive hot mess/cool mix is both public + inclusive/supportive as well as being simultaneously hyperfocused + quick to judge/respond to those who might stumble upon/into this domain naively w/o understandings of the basics of computers, Internets, online social spaces, Dirty New Media, glitch +/or Glitch Art. Glitch//Request has a young/enthusiastic energy as well as familiar old exxxpressions of crowd mentalities when the mob mobilizes to defn itself in opposition to a singularly targeted other who has been actively otherized through a discursive technosocial process. these patterns are all too familiarly rehearsed online in/on Glitch//Request in ways that make me uncomfortable w/ my own membership in + thereby tacit agreement TO: the group identity, as it defn’s itself. + yet, unlike my friend ../n!ck Briz, imma knot abt to leaves Facebook in general or this public group in specifixxx…

still, i wanna detail out a few ways in wwwitch these Glitch//Requests wwwerxxx to discuss wit yawwwl:

there are a number of different && differing types of Glitch//Requests made + materialized on the Glitch//Request group. the 1rst class i will suggest is those that are well recv’d, by wwwitch i mean those requests that are posted + then engender responses/participation. in otherwords: these are posts in the group that are then ‘glitched’ by those in the group. while sum well recv’d posts are ‘for the lulz’ many/most that engage me are composed of a selfie + a request being made in various terms/on various levels to ‘glitch’ this photo/img. these categories of well recv’d posts, the ‘for the lulz’ + the ‘pls glitch my selfie’ requests, are not necessarily always distinct + can crossover i.e. in destructive/mean-spirited ways (wwwitch i will detail in the last EX). less contentious EX’s of the common types of posts recv many comments, those w/ comment threads incl’ing the requests being met or fulfilled in various/commonly legible forms. i.e. a post is posted as a request && then that request is met in the comment threads. this is the most basic outline of the structure of these technosocial exchanges

here is an EX post/request by Samar Azmi that has bin well recv’d:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/glitchrequest/permalink/425954180875702/

the abv post/request resulted in fairly predictable responses/participation such as these moments:

wwwwwitch all mobilize various but stabilized styles of glitch/gritch/gl1tch ‘Art’ artifacts/affects for still imgs

many of (what i am referring TO: in this txt as) the well recvd posts/requests follow similar patterns, net similar results + display similar aspects, i.e. an enthusiastic/curious youthful selfie w/ a friendly/affable/reassuring/complimentary txt as the invitation framing the glitch request. this combination also often involves (as is the case [@ least in my reading] in the abv EX) a gently enticing entreatment that involves a performance of submission in the process of making the solicitation. the word “please” is vry important in this dynamic. + the statement of praise/flattery for “so many talented glitch artists on here” in advance of possible outcomes is part of the lubrication of this enticement to engage those in the community to accept + fulfill the request. an allure, if not a glamor (as a technosocial form of computer wwwitchcraft) needs to be quickly crafted to attract attn to the request + encourage responses as the initial spellcraft is cast

there are EX.s warez these dynamics are more directly sexualized exchanges. these types of requests perform enchantments that attempt to (@ least symbolically) seduce, i.e. Tata’s post that reads: “I need to get glitched. I want you to glitch me. glitch me hard”. this type of posts reconnects to playful Dirty New Media aspects of sexualizing technosocial power exchanges && sex-positive kink/fetish culture influences (as i ref to abv + will exxxpand on soon in a separate txt)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/glitchrequest/permalink/409079539229833/

this nxt EX post/request was recv’d in a vry uncertain way, rapidly spiralled out into a trolling/trollbaiting scenario, becoming a defining moment for the group in which the group quickly mobilized against an otherized subject in the person of Nkeemah Darrah, who had posted this invitation to glitch her selfie:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/glitchrequest/permalink/430700453734408/

the ABOVE threads were then celebrated by the participants. the ways in which the participants valued these exchanges is densely packed in ways that should be read to be untangled. this celebration + the group mentality that the group established/maintained during these exchanges became literally definitive of the group itself: the public Glitch//Request Facebook group’s ABOUT/ruleset was updated as a result of these exchanges && now reads:

“Welcome to Glitch//Request.

Post sauce images. Respond with glitches.

Hone your skills. Develop new techniques. Make Friends. Collaborate. Learn. Like incessantly. Post incessantly

New topics are for glitch requests. If it’s not a glitch request, it probably doesn’t belong here!

That means no advertising of any sort. Don’t post your soundcloud. Don’t post your webstore.

“You guys are fucked up and rude like it would be a lot nicer if you would explain to a person instead of bitching at them” — Nkeemah Darrah

777 members (259 new)”

…the ABOVE EX of the details of Glitch//Request’s exchanges w/ Nkeemah Darrah is a disturbing/troubling problematrices of inclusion/exclusion for a group dedicated “Glitch Art” wwwitch i thin deserves deeper analysis to unpack + attempt to understand in context(s). the group mentality that quickly mobilized is demonstrative/definitive of exclusionary patriarchal tactics that are corrosive to collaboration + community development. furthermore, in this case && in all of these EX’s abv, these dynamics are particularly gendered. in order to fully flesh out the complexities 01 wwwould also most certainly need to incl difficult to determine details on race + class positions of those involved in these exchanges. i am esp sensitive to these problematrices in the context of glitch/Glitch Art && Feminisms as i have bin + am a developer/educator of these communities along continuums of PRE-GLITCH ⇌ GLITCH ⇋ POST-GLITCH from d1Ɍ+y̶ ̶N̶3WWW_M3DI∆ TO: D1THERRR_D00M

so nowww: g’byes ṗ◎ȿ7-ᴳ̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̇̐└i⨥ɔH̶̷ ȿɄɱɱɱƋ ⁽²⁰¹⁴⁾, you were… so vry
