im thinking && feeling about cyberpunk identities
from open source communities to Taiwanese 自然獨 && 天然獨. here in the nation of Taiwan a couple of terms are used to express an identity of people born in this direct democracy. these terms express being born-free and/or born-independent as a Taiwanese. both of these are cyberpunk identities because Taiwan is already cyberpunk. we find the lived realities of cyberpunk in the national focus on AI, Taiwan’s international dominance in frontier technologies, and vibrant youth cultures of artists && musicians who define themselves as Y2K as they explore the synthetic nostalgia of 1990s under neon rain, in urban futures Gibson only dreamed of…
