THIS Cyberpunk Saturday, are you

looking fwds to Cyberpunk Summer? err 《 glitch.school 》 Summer School at Glitch Art Gallery? heres yr 1rst reading list && assignment, consider these moments from my Networks (A Rhizomatic Timeline) project:

● 1970s: William Gibson, living in Vancouver, listening to Punk musics, starts to write Science Fiction
● 1977: “Fragments of a Hologram Rose” (his first short story, written during college)
● 1981: “The Gernsback Continuum” (Science Fiction futures as forms of techno-cultural nostalgia)
● 1982: “Burning Chrome” (written 1981, published 1982), && Gibson sees the film Blade Runner (released in 1982) + in turn, rewrites Neuromancer many times…
● 1984: “Neuromancer” (his first novel published, the begining of The Sprawl Trilogy)
● 1986: Count Zero (the second novel in The Sprawl Trilogy)
● 1988: Mona Lisa Overdrive (completes The Sprawl Trilogy)

now consider that:

✭ the birth of Cyberpunk is directly connected to Punk musics && cultures,
✭ the beautifully haunting “Fragments of a Hologram Rose” was William Gibsons first short story, and
✭ Cyberpunk is recursive technosocial expressions that constitute a culture

how would you express your own versions of cyberpunk today, w these Media Art Hystories in mind?
